What Is a Bevel Needle?
A bevel needle is a needle tip with angled surfaces at the sharpened end which help to form the point of the needle itself. In technical terms, the word "bevel" refers to the angled surface formed on the tube of the needle.
Most medical needles have three bevels, but it's possible to find models with more. Bevel needles are specially designed to ease pressure as the needle penetrates the skin and allow it to surge forward without requiring too much physical effort to overcome the resistance.

How Does a Bevel Needle Work?
Bevel needles are manufactured with care and precision, as the bevels at the end of the tip are specially sharpened and flattened to create the unique angular shape of these items. Multiple bevels may be added during the manufacturing process to create the optimal design. When the needle is pushed against skin and penetrates the barrier, the bevels help to gradually ease the needle into position and reduce the amount of resistance against it.
Bevel Needle Sizes
As with all types of needles, bevel needles are available in a broad range of sizes, and some are much longer than others. Typically, these needles can measure anywhere from 1/4" in length up to 1 1/2".
Bevel Needle Types
There are four main types of bevel needles: regular, short, intradermal, and 5-bevel. Regular bevel needles are the most common and typically consist of three bevels, used for intramuscular and subcutaneous injection. Short bevels, as the name implies, are a little flatter and shorter, used for injections that don't need to go too deep into the body, like arterial blood sampling. Intradermal bevels are designed for shallow, low angle injections into the layers of skin, while 5-bevel needles have additional bevels to create an exceptionally flat and slender surface to minimize pain and discomfort.

They can be used for injecting a wide range of substances, including fluids and medications, as well as for drawing out samples of blood or other fluids from the body.
