What Is a PICC Line Dressing Change Kit?
A PICC line dressing change kit is a set of items that are used for changing the dressing around a PICC line. A PICC line, also known as a peripherally inserted central catheter line, is a type of catheter that provides intravenous (IV) access to a patient for a prolonged period of time for the administration of antibiotics, fluids, or medications.

How Does a PICC Line Dressing Change Kit Work?
PICC line dressing change kits are usually used on a weekly basis to change dressings, or between every 5-7 days, but some dressings may need changing more often depending on the situation. To change the dressing, a nurse or doctor will need to wear sterile gloves and a face mask (included in most PICC line dressing change kits). They'll first clean their hands and prepare the supplies, then peel away the old dressing, leaving the catheter in position. The old dressing will be disposed of and a new pair of gloves will need to be worn. The site around the catheter can be cleaned with an antiseptic wipe and the new dressing will then be applied over the area where the PICC line enters the skin. It can be taped into position to finish the process.
