What Is a Vented Needle?
A vented needle is a specific type of needle which has a "vent" or hole along the side to allow air to pass through the needle. This is an important feature, as it prevents any pressure differences in and around the needle, reducing the risk of hazardous substances spraying out when the needle enters a vial or is used for medication preparation.

How Does a Vented Needle Work?
A vented needle works in a very similar way to any other needle; it has a sharp point that can penetrate into sealed vials and puncture skin in order to administer injections of various fluids or medications. The main difference with a vented needle compared to other kinds of needles is the presence of vented holes along the sides of the needle. These holes allow air to pass in and out of the needle, and this helps to prevent any pressure differences or problems when the needle enters a vial or other container, reducing the risk of the fluid spraying out.
