What Is IV Tubing?
IV tubing, also known as infusion tubing, is an important piece of medical equipment used in IV lines and infusion therapy. IV tubes or lines serve as the passageways for fluids and medications to travel through between the IV bag or machine and the patient's body.
It's important for IV tubing to be clean, flexible, and free of any blockages or obstructions in order to conveniently and efficiently facilitate the flow of fluids along the IV system and into the patient's body.

How Does IV Tubing Work?
IV tubing is an integral component of any IV system or set. Usually, this tubing is connected to a needle or cannula at one end which enters the patient’s body to provide venous access. At the other end, the tubing links to an IV bag or device which provides the necessary fluids or medications for the patient.
IV Tubing Sizes
IV tubing or infusion tubing is available in a wide range of sizes, as different lengths and amounts of IV tubing may be needed for different situations. Some IV tubes are just 10" long, while others are available in reels of over 100".
IV Tubing Types
Even though IV tubing may all look relatively similar at first glance, there are actually a few different types of IV tubing, with slight variations in design and structure. Filtered IV tubing, for example, comes with a built-in filter to block contaminants, while vented IV tubing has an air vent to keep air out of the IV line. Non-vented IV tubing does not have any kind of air vent. There is also gravity IV tubing, which is designed for use with gravity IV bags.
