What Is a Polydek Suture?
A Polydek suture is a specific type of medical suture. These sutures have specific uses and features that separate them from other kinds of medical sutures, and they're made from a type of polyester with a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating.
Polydek sutures have various advantages over other kinds of sutures which make them a good choice for certain processes and procedures. For example, they offer excellent handling, allowing the surgeon to enjoy a high level of control and precision when working with these sutures. Polydek sutures also stand out for their lubricity and tensile strength.
Polydek sutures are available in a range of sizes to suit different situations and applications. They fall into the category of non-absorbable sutures, which means that they will not degrade in the body on their own, so will either need to be left in place for a long-term period or will have to be manually removed at a later date once the wound or surgical site has healed.

How Does a Polydek Suture Work?
Polydek sutures work just like any other kind of medical sutures. First, the doctor or surgeon will need to choose the right size of Polydek suture to meet the patient’s needs. For example, smaller lengths of Polydek suture will be needed for relatively small incision sites, while large lengths of Polydek suture will be required to stitch up larger wounds or open areas. Once the right size has been chosen, the Polydek suture can be attached to a surgical needle and then threaded through the skin or tissue to stitch a wound or incision site back together.
Polydek Suture Sizes
There are various sizes of Polydek sutures, and they are typically measured according to the standard USP (United States Pharmacopeia) system. Some of the most common sizes for Polydek sutures are 5-0, 4-0, and 3-0, but other sizes are also available, and there are various different lengths of Polydek suture available, too.
Polydek Suture Types
Polydek sutures are a very specific type of medical suture, with their own unique material, design, and structure. They may be made by different brands, including the likes of Medline and Covidien, but they are all identical in terms of their overall design and structure, made from polyester.
Polydek Suture Uses
There are various ways to use Polydek sutures. Polydek sutures are mainly suited for general use in stitching soft tissue and ligation, including in situations involving cardiovascular or even ophthalmic damages and surgeries.
