What Is a Mahurkar Catheter?
A Mahurkar catheter is a particular kind of catheter that is mostly used for hemodialysis. It consists of a large, semi-flexible tube. How Does a Mahurkar Catheter Work?
Mahurkar catheters need to be inserted into the patient's blood vessels. To begin with, an area of the body will be selected for insertion, which is usually around the collarbone or the groin. Mahurkar Catheter Placement Procedure

Mahurkar Catheter Removal Procedure
Removing the Mahurkar catheter should be an easy procedure. The catheter is unstitched, and the healthcare provider pulls the catheter out. Pressure is applied for five minutes and then a pressure bandage is placed on the area. The bandage usually stays on for about 24 to 48 hours.
Warnings:
- Do not take a shower while the catheter is still in, do not immerse the catheter in water.
- Keep the area clean and dry.
- Dressing should be checked daily.
