What Are Non-Sterile Gloves?
The term “non-sterile gloves” is used to describe any gloves that have not undergone a sterilization procedure by the manufacturer. They differ from sterile gloves, which are sterilized by the manufacturer in accordance with the FDA’s standards.
Another big difference between sterile and non-sterile gloves is the AQL, or acceptable quality level, of the pinholes. Non-sterile gloves can have an AQL from 1.5 to 2.5, while sterile surgical gloves have AQLs at 1.0 to 1.5. This means that the standards of quality assurance for non-sterile gloves are not as strict as those for sterile gloves.
In practical terms, all of this means that non-sterile gloves are usually much cheaper to buy and produce than their sterile counterparts, but may not have quite the same levels of quality and durability. They can’t be used for internal medical procedures due to the risk of cross-contamination, but may be used for other purposes, like handling chemicals or to protect the wearer from exposure to chemicals or bodily fluids.
