What Is a Chromic Gut Suture?
A chromic gut suture, also sometimes known simply as a gut suture or catgut suture, is a specific type of medical suture that is usually used for repairing soft tissue wounds and lacerations.
Often used for gynecological procedures, such as repairing wounds or damages to the genitalia, these types of sutures are absorbable. This means that they will naturally break down and degrade in the body over time, dissolved by the body's own enzymes and fluids, rather than needing to be removed manually.
Chromic gut sutures are available in a range of sizes and are an example of polyfilament medical sutures, which means that they are composed of multiple individual filaments bonded or threaded together. How Does a Chromic Gut Suture Work?
