The 3M Attest Rapid Readout Biological Indicators for 270 degrees Fahrenheit/132 degrees Celsius Gravity Steam Sterilizers, 1291, are used to monitor the efficacy of steam sterilization processes. These indicators are designed to provide quick and reliable results, ensuring that the sterilization process is effective and safe for medical instruments and other items that require sterilization. This self-contained Biological Indicator (BI) consists of a Geobacillus stearothermophilus spore strip and a sealed glass ampoule with growth media and dual indicator system. The spore strip and media ampoule are contained in a plastic vial topped with a blue color-coded cap which includes a chemical process indicator on top.

When processed, the chemical process indicator turns from rose to brown. After the steam sterilization process, the BI is activated to join the growth media with the processed spore strip. The BI is incubated in the 3M Attest Auto-reader 390 for a final fluorescent result at 1 hour.

• Incubation: After the cycle is complete, incubate the BI at 55-60 degrees Celsius in the 3M Attest Auto-reader.
• Readout: The Auto-reader will provide results within 3 hours. A color change from purple to yellow indicates bacterial growth, meaning the sterilization cycle was not effective.
