ALLEVYN Gentle - Gel Adhesive Hydrocellular Foam Dressing, 10cm x 10cm, 1 bx/10 dressings

ALLEVYN Gentle has been designed for when you need some gentle adhesion to give you a helping hand as you apply dressings on delicate areas of the body1. The soft gel adhesive is suitable for use on fragile skin1 and is shown to minimise trauma and pain at dressing changes.

Utilising the ALLEVYN triple action technology to provide effective fluid management ALLEVYN Gentle is also suitable for application under compression bandaging.

ALLEVYN Gentle dressings are indicated for use on:

• Shallow, granulating wounds
• Chronic and acute exudative wounds
• Full and partial thickness wounds such as pressure ulcers, leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers
• Infected wounds
• Malignant wounds
• Surgical wounds
• First and second degree burns
• Donor sites
• Skin tears
• Fungating ulcers

Technology

Like all ALLEVYN dressings, ALLEVYN Gentle has at its heart a unique three-layer technology that actively manages exudate. An absorbent hydrocellular pad is held between a soft gel adhesive wound contact layer and a highly permeable waterproof outer film. This dynamic system ensures that the wound is kept at optimum moisture levels to enable moist wound healing.

Breathable Top Film

The outer polyurethane top film switches to become more breathable in the presence of exudate.It also helps to prevent strikethrough and provides an effective barrier to bacteria and minimises the risk of cross contamination.

Highly Absorbent Foam Core

The hydrocellular foam core is highly absorbent, providing absorption capacity for up to 7 days.

Non-Adherent Wound Contact Layer

The wound contact layer will not stick to the wound and the soft gel adhesive provides gentle adhesion to aid application whilst being suitable for fragile skin.

ALLEVYN Gentle is easy to apply and can be lifted and repositioned during application thanks to its gentle adhesive. The dressing is designed to minimise pain and trauma to the wound with gentle soft-gel adhesive technology meaning it is suitable for delicate and fragile skin.

Triple-action ALLEVYN technology absorbs, retains and transpires the optimal balance of fluid for the very best in patient care.

All that you'd expect from ALLEVYN with the addition of Silicone gel for minimising pain on removal and a longer wear time for patients with fragile skin.

Indications

• Chronic and acute exudative wounds
• Full and partial thickness wounds such as pressure ulcers
• Leg ulcers
• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Infected wounds
• Malignant wounds
• Surgical wounds
• First and second degree burns
• Donor sites
• Skin tears
• Fungating ulcers.

Application

Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures. Select appropriate dressing size. ALLEVYN Gentle Border Lite can be cut to dress awkward areas. Always use a clean technique when cutting the dressing. Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the wound area and remove excess moisture. Any excess hair should be clipped to ensure close approximation to the wound. Remove one of the protector films and anchor the adhesive side of the dressing to the skin.

Remove the remaining protector film and smooth the dressing over the remainder of the wound without stretching, ensuring there are no creases. The pad area of the dressing must be adhered across the entire surface of the wound. The dressing can be lifted and repositioned without losing its adherent properties. If the dressing has been cut ensure any exposed foam areas are covered with an appropriate film dressing taking care not to cover the entire dressing.

Frequency of change

During the early stages of wound management ALLEVYN Gentle Border Lite should be inspected according to local clinical protocol. Where the product is used on infected wounds the infection should be inspected and treated as per local clinical protocol. Dressings can be left in place for up to 7 days, except the sacral area where dressings can be left in place for up to 5 days, depending on the condition of the wound and the surrounding skin or until exudate is visible and approaches to within 0.5cm of the edge of the dressing pad, whichever is sooner. The decision of when to change should be dependent upon clinical assessment and local protocols should also be taken into consideration.

Removal

To remove ALLEVYN Gentle Border Lite, lift one corner of the dressing and slowly peel back until completely removed from the wound.

Precautions

• Do not use ALLEVYN Gentle dressings with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions (e.g. EUSOL) or hydrogen peroxide, as these can break down the absorbent polyurethane component of the dressing.
• When used under compression ALLEVYN Gentle could become dislodged if the limb experiences a rapid reduction in edema.
• If reddening or sensitization occur discontinue use.
