Product Description

B Braun L5202 - Dextrose, 10%, 250mL, EXCEL Containers, 24/cs

Dextrose, 10%, 250mL, EXCEL Containers, 24/cs

B. Braun Excel IV Dextrose Injections are sterile, nonpyrogenic and contain no bacteriostatic or antimicrobial agents. These bags are intended for intravenous administration. The Excel IV solutions are indicated for use in both adults and pediatric patients as sources of calories and water for hydration.

B. Braun Excel IV containers are biologically inert and non-DEHP, not made with PVC. Certain medications release DEHP when in contact with PVC and these Excel IV containers significantly reduce patient exposure to DEHP toxins. B. Braun Excel IV containers can resist heat up to 40 degrees Celsius during a period of 30 days until expiration once opened.

Dextrose, 10%, 250mL, EXCEL IV Containers Target and Overfill Volume Specifications

United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has certain requirements for the fill volume of a large volume parenteral product stating that each intravenous solution container must be filled with a "volume in slight excess of the labeled size or in that the volume which is to be withdrawn". In hospital settings, most excess solution is expended in the process of flushing and filling the administration set at the beginning of the infusion. For containers of 50mL or greater, the USP recommends excess volume at 2% or 3% if the solution is viscous, which is considered adequate to allow for withdrawal and administration of the labeled volume.

Excel IV container overfill volume includes the 2% overfill recommended by the USP to compensate for the residual volume left in the container after drainage, and addition of a sufficient amount of solution (nearly 2%) to allow for water vapor transmission losses out of the container over the shelf life of the product. The remaining overfill volume, accounted for by the variation in the amount of solution dispensed by the filling equipment, assuring that the product will contain at least the labeled volume and the overfill volumes stated below. B. Braun Excel IV containers are designed to prevent that the losses from the vapor transmission will not affect the claimed solution volumes and concentrations over the shelf life of the product.

Overfill Volume for Excel IV Container, 250mL:

  • Container Size: 250mL
  • Nominal Fill Volume: 270mL
  • Lower Limit: -7
  • Upper Limit: +6

Excel IV Containers Storage

250mL Excel IV containers can be stored at 25 degrees Celsius for up to 1 month without any plastic overwrapping, or until the expiration date. B. Braun has properly tested and recommends facility protocols regarding adequate storage of drug product containers.
