RAYPORT Muscle Biopsy Clamps
The use of this device is designed to facilitate consistent histopathic evaluation of muscle biopsies by
- Helping to prevent damage to the specimen during dissection
- Delivery of an adequate size specimen; and
- Helping to prevent the specimen from curling or becoming twisted during fixation. Also, this clamp helps to reduce the time required to obtain a muscle biopsy.

Indications
The Rayport Muscle Biopsy Clamp is indicated for isometric biopsies of muscle specimens and may be used for nerve and blood vessel specimens as well.
Contraindications
The use of the Rayport Muscle Biopsy Clamp at the site of local infection is contraindicated.
Directions For Use
- Preassemble the clamp by swinging the top platform over the bottom section and introducing the three long pins through the accomodating holes. Do not close the clamp further than is necessary to maintain the pinhole engagement or it will be difficult to enter the muscle bundle.
- Slip the clamp under and over the fiber bundle and tighten on the specimen with a hemostat. The clamp now serves as a handle for manipulation of the specimen.
- Sever the muscle fiber 3 mm beyond the outer margins of the clamp to prevent disengagement of the specimen by retraction.
- The handle of the clamp may be cut off to fit into the specimen clips of an automatic histological processing machine.
