Dolphin BT is the first device to combine stoma formation and tracheal tube insertion into a simple and efficient one-step procedure: balloon-assisted tracheostomy (BAT). It was designed specifically to maximize operator control and help prevent trauma to the anterior tracheal wall and surrounding structures. Like percutaneous tracheostomy, BAT can be performed at the patient's bedside and yields comparable cost savings.

Following radial dilation, tissue conforms to the tracheostomy tube, creating a tight fit that helps prevent airway leakage, accidental dislodgment and bleeding.
