Ethicon VCP267H Coated VICRYL Plus Antibacterial (polyglactin 910) Suture

VICRYL Plus Suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, except for ophthalmic, cardiovascular and neurological tissues. Shown in vitro to inhibit bacterial colonization of the suture for 7 days or more.

Coated VICRYL Plus Antibacterial (polyglactin 910) Suture is a widely used absorbable suture in surgical procedures. Here's an overview of its key features and applications:

  • Material: Made from a copolymer of 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide, providing strength and flexibility.
  • Coating: Contains a proprietary mixture of Polyglactin 370 and calcium stearate, which improves handling and knot security.
  • Antibacterial Properties: Treated with triclosan, an antibacterial agent that helps reduce the risk of surgical site infections (SSIs).
  • Absorption: Absorbed by hydrolysis, typically complete between 56-70 days. Initial tensile strength is retained for about 2-3 weeks.
  • Color: Available in violet for visibility and undyed for cosmetic reasons.

Applications

  • General Surgery: Suitable for soft tissue approximation and ligation.
  • Gynecology: Commonly used in procedures like hysterectomies.
  • Orthopedics: Used for soft tissue repairs, including muscle and fascia.
  • Urology: Effective for suturing tissues in procedures like prostatectomy.
  • Gastrointestinal Surgery: Ideal for anastomoses and closures

Benefits

  • Reduced Infection Risk: The triclosan coating provides protection against bacterial colonization.
  • Enhanced Handling: The coating improves ease of use and reduces friction during suturing.
  • Predictable Absorption: Reliable absorption profile ensures the suture maintains strength as needed during the healing process.
  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of surgical procedures, making it a versatile choice for many surgeons.
